Balboza worked his entire career as an industrial designer for Henry Dreyfuss, he attended SVA in the 1960s and never stopped painting and sculpting despite never showing his work publicly. Chess was a constant fixation of his art, considering the conceptual implications of the game and the sculpture forms that it could acquire
