Populution [Yippies] Lithograph, 1970s

Poster designed and printed by the Yippies, in 1971
The Youth International Party (YIPpies) were a radical group that used often humourous and audacious media stunts to propagandize their revolutionary, anti-war and broadly countercultural ideology
This poster was printed and designed by the Yippies in 1971
The meaning of this piece is a little more opaque than almost all of their other work (which tends to hit you over the head with its agenda). I have a few theories:
One is that it refers to the Yippies 1968 candidate for president, Pigasus, a real life pig that the Yippies campaigned for.
Another is that it likens the American population as an over-consuming polluting force.
Another is that it's anti-cop, more pigs equals more population pollution
There are remnants of sticky pieces on the corner
