Hector Trotin (1894-1966)

Oil on wood panel

Trotin was a Parisian folk artist, influenced by his father’s career as an antique dealer and nostalgia for the graphics of the Paris of his youth. Trotin is mostly known for these small scale but lively scenes of hot air balloons and other early aviation. This particular piece commemorates the first hot air balloon flight in 1783 by the Montgolfier brothers

Painting likely dates to the 1950s

He signed almost every work with a different name, sometimes anagrams, this appears to be signed Retor. His work often has a label on the back to inform what is pictured and some additional inventory seeming information
